Dear Friends of the Conservatory,
It is with deep sadness that I must inform you that the
Crestmont Conservatory of Music will close on July 31, 2017.
The passing of our founder, Thomas LaRatta, last year, was a great loss to the
conservatory community. The board of directors, the faculty and staff and I,
wished to continue his legacy of outstanding musical education and performance.
We still feel this way. However, the realities of the Bay Area real estate
market, the uncertainty of our current rental situation, combined with the need
for major changes to so many aspects of the conservatory, requiring a very
substantial investment of both financial resources and personal energy, led us
to the decision to close while we were able to do so without even greater
disruption to our studentsí and familiesí lives.
Our teachers are finding solutions to continue providing lessons as independent
teachers if possible, and they will be discussing this with students and
We sincerely appreciate your support, and would like you to know that in
accordance with the articles of incorporation, any assets remaining when the
conservatory closes will be donated to a musical charity.
It has been a great honor for me to serve as conservatory president this year,
and I am truly grateful for all your support and good wishes. I wish you all the
very best, and hope that music will always be a part of your lives. I could not
imagine my life without it.
