A Letter from One of Our Alumni

Back in the 1970s through about 1981, I took piano lessons through Crestmont Conservatory. In addition to the private piano lessons, I remember "Saturday classes" with musicianship, theory, history of piano and performance, to name a few. While I still have a horrible fear of playing for crowds, I have two children who love music, love to sing, love to play the piano and flute and love an audience. While they don't have the same "conservatory" experience that I had, they still participate in recitals and take Syllabus exams. We've found an excellent piano teacher here in Portland, OR. Unlike my childhood however, we keep the piano in the family room where anyone can play it any time and it isn't "hidden away" in the living room where just the grown-ups are allowed...

I thank you all for the experience you gave me. While it may have felt like
pulling teeth at times, for you, what I learned and can pass on to my kids is immeasurable. I still sit down with them and my husband to play the piano, to help with their new pieces and sometimes play the accompaniment to their singing. And my kids' teacher says my technique is excellent -- thanks to you!).

It's wonderful to see Mr. and Mrs. LaRatta, Ms. Bjorklund and Mr. Robinson on your staff of active instructors. Your students have carried your traditions around the world, I'm sure.

Thank you for nurturing an appreciation for music that will endure a lifetime
and continue with our next generation.

Warm regards,
Tricia Gilmore Sipowicz
